In today's fast-paced business landscape, harnessing the power of AI is no longer just an option — it's a necessity. But how can business leaders ensure they're making the most of AI's capabilities to drive real impact?
Recently, we hosted a private dinner with the former director of product at BBC iPlayer, Dan Taylor-Watt. Dan shared invaluable insights on leveraging AI for business growth with some of the Liverpool City Region’s (LCR) most innovative digital, creative, and tech businesses, along with key stakeholders from the local ecosystem.
Thanks to our event sponsorship from IT and business consulting services firm CGI, attendees enjoyed great food, company, and conversation. Hot topics included ways in which clients are utilising AI and emerging ethical challenges. Examples were shared of clients assigning AI-specific team roles, such as critical board members or technical and analytical positions, to support their operations.
One notable project discussed was Google's "Project Contrail," which utilises applied AI to help airlines minimise vapor trail formation and lower emissions by adjusting aircraft altitudes. This initiative has the potential to offset the equivalent of all CO2 emissions generated by AI worldwide in a year, according to some estimates.
Dan's foremost advice was to "give it a go," urging everyone to experiment with AI, become more acquainted with it, and consider investing in the premium version of ChatGPT, highlighting the noticeable disparity and advantage of its usage.
So, with AI on the mind, here are five key questions every savvy leader should ask:
1. Strategic Integration: How can we strategically integrate AI into our existing processes to boost efficiency and productivity?
2. Addressing Pain Points: What specific challenges or bottlenecks within our operations can AI help us overcome?
3. Customer Insights: Are there opportunities to leverage AI to gain deeper insights into customer needs and behaviour, ultimately enhancing our offerings and services?
4. Ethical Considerations: How can we ensure that our AI initiatives uphold our company's values and ethical standards while remaining compliant with regulations?
5. Continuous Improvement: What measures can we put in place to continuously evaluate and adapt our AI strategies, ensuring they stay relevant and effective in an ever-evolving landscape?
By asking these crucial questions and taking proactive steps to maximise AI's usefulness and impact, businesses can position themselves for success in the digital age.
