Last month saw the Liverpool City Region’s Tech Climbers List Reveal for 2023. The tech community came together for an incredible event at Love Lane Brewery. It was packed with great speakers, a chance to meet new businesses and funders, and of course the big reveal...
Tech Climbers is a regional list produced by Active Profile, BusinessCloud and TechBlast that showcases the top-performing, IP-rich, product-led technology businesses. The initiative is expanding into Yorkshire for 2023, with an announcement to follow.
As Active Profile’s Anna Heyes, said on the night: “The idea behind Tech Climbers was always to showcase and celebrate the fastest growing tech businesses in growth regions in the UK. Tonight, has been all about Liverpool City Region's brilliant businesses, but it’s also about creating the list and showcasing stories to investors so we can fill the funding gaps within the industry.”
A sector primed for growth
For the first time since launching most entries are new to the Tech Climbers list and 64% of the start-ups included have already received funding. Stats that highlight just how exciting and fast-moving the sector is in the city region. And with 100% of the 2023 entrants looking to hire talent within the next 12 months it's encouraging for future growth in the sector too.
We asked a few of the businesses who made it onto the main list and the ‘ones to watch’ list what it means to them. Here’s what they had to say:
Jen Fenner from DefProc
How does it feel to be on the Tech Climbers list?
We are so proud at DefProc that we have become an official Tech Climber. Having being on the "One to Watch" list in 2021, it's so exciting that our progression has been recognised, it shows all our hard work is paying off.
How do you think it might help your business going forward?
Tech Climbers is a prestigious list, so for DefProc to be part of this means that our clients or future collaborations can see that we are a credible company with a lot to offer. Being an innovation partner for big brands is sometimes enough of a selling point, however when you have that external recognition it can mean so much more.
Niamh Allen from IoT Horizon
How does it feel to be on the Tech Climbers list?
Being named one of the Liverpool City Region Tech Climbers is an incredible honour for our team at IoT Horizon. We are thrilled to be recognised for our commitment to delivering innovative IoT solutions that help businesses optimise their buildings' performance, energy efficiency, and environmental impact. This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, and we are proud to be counted among the top tech companies in the region.
How do you think it might help your business going forward?
Being featured on the Liverpool City Region Tech Climbers list is an excellent opportunity for us to increase our visibility and build relationships within the local tech community. We believe that this recognition will help us to expand our reach, grow our customer base, and ultimately, achieve our goal of becoming a leader in IoT solutions in the Liverpool region and beyond. Additionally, we hope that this recognition will inspire other businesses to consider the benefits of IoT technology and how it can help them achieve their goals.
James Burch from Decently
How does it feel to be on the Tech Climbers ‘Ones to Watch’ list?
It was such a great night with a real buzz around the room! We feel very privileged to be recognised alongside our LCR peers on the “ones to watch” list for what we’ve been able to achieve in the last 18 months. 2023 is lining up to be an exciting year so getting this early encouragement is fantastic.
How do you think it might help your business going forward?
As a young HealthTech business in the city region we hope that being on the Tech Climbers list will help enhance our profile across the digital and health sector. Giving us more credibility in customer and investment conversations, opening up new opportunities and overall highlighting how we are using tech to impact people’s lives.
Adam Triantis from DCYPHER
How does it feel to be on the Tech Climbers list?
It’s absolutely fantastic. The tech climber’s list is a brilliant way to shine a spotlight on companies in the region who are innovating and trying to move the needle in their respective industries. For DCYPHER specifically, its lovely to be recognised for what we are trying to achieve in bringing technology into the beauty space. The beauty industry has lagged behind other industries in its use of technology for some time and we are trying to change that in a way that has diversity and inclusion at its core.
What or how do you think it might help your business going forward?
Being on the list has already provided us with a wealth of new connections and I am certain it will help us in identifying new partners to aid our growth in the future. Not only that but I think it will certainly bring us to the attention of potential investors across the UK might not otherwise have known about us and what we do.
